Happy New Year ;o) ~ and what happends:

After almost 10 years of establishing, developing and running Duckling Air, I, The Skipper, now step back ~ at least for a while, leaving the tiller to primarily Lars Larsen, Crewmaster.
Still, the name, concept, design a.o. is my property, and I also keep a right to Veto, but in general, Lars and I normally agree on what/which and how to do it, so I am rather confident
;o)
Yes ! Duckling Air started in 1996. I mostly constructed and painted, aircrafts and adventures for FS5.1, and went online with own home page going online in 1997.

I have now moved Duckling Air homepage from www.danbbs.dk to another server, and using the good ol' address: www.Duckling-Air.dk will redirect to here: www.theskipper.dk/Duckling-Air/ index page, from which you can choose to dig deeper in theese pages or go to Crewmaster's site.

A while ago, our devoted Crewmaster, Lars Larsen, established a separate homepage as a supplement and update to theese Duckling Air pages. Just take a look on the latest 4 - 5 postings below.
Theese Duckling Air pages will from now on stay mostly as you see them, and updates for FS2002/4 will be posted on ' Crewmaster's site '
( link ).
Must admit, new aircrafts arrive all the time, and also, our devoted duckling, Mogens Mortensen ( who gave us the all new EKVL Intl airport ) is working on an update for FS2004 and 2002 aswell ;o)
When ready for DL, all will be posted a
t Crewmaster's site.

Moving the homepage also resulted in me getting new e-mail addresses, so please - do not use the former one(s) at danbbs.dk. Due to spam, we will not have e-mail links here anymore !
Instead, I am working on a form page, but for now, go to Crewmaster's Contact page.

JB_Sejle860615b_sm02a4.jpg (14122 bytes)

I will still be lurking from the side wing - also holding all copyrights and any rights whatsoever related to Duckling Air - plus checking that all is being done in accordance with the general idea and in the spirit on which this airline was founded and run so far.

Finally - give Lars Larsen and all our supporters a big hand for taking over and carrying on from here !

Pages updated:

As stated below, Lars Larsen is working on new aeroplanes for this airline and several new ones for FS2002 and FS2004 are available for download from ' Crewmaster's site ' ( link ).

What about trying out a chopper ??

DAhumbird3-FS2004_sm.jpg (15148 bytes)

or an MD83 ??

DAmd83-FS2004_sm.jpg (10925 bytes)

Same place you can see pictures of work in progres and soon to be released.

All aircrafts presented at ' Crewmasters site ' are stated as ' Beta ' but most of them are finished and fully equipped, ready for take off.

I urge you to go take a look ;o)

Crew issues:

The long awaited reporting system is now ready for use ( members only ! ).
The reporting system and the Pilot rooster had to undergo certain changes in order to make the system fully automatic.
FS2004 flighthours are now accepted in the new Duckling Air Reporting System (DAPS).

See the new Duckling Air Reporting System here

See the new Duckling Air Pilot Status page here

See the new Duckling Air First Officer page here

Important:
The Category Manual ( ' CatMan6e ' ) is presently not up to date on all issues.
Mainly because of our new reporting system, and most important due to FS98's ability to store and play checkrun videos not implemented in later versions, we cannot uphold the unique Duckling Air Flight Academy any more.
Now you rise through the ranking system only based on number of hours flown !

Here's the list:
     0 - 49 hours = Novice
  50 - 249 hours = Pilot ( Category 1 license )
250 - 499 hours = Pilot ( Category 2 license - Wings I )
500 - 749 hours = Pilot ( Category 3 license - Wings 2 )
750 - 1000 hours = Pilot ( Category 4 license - Wings 3 )
1000 hours + = Captain ( Category 5 - Captain's cap )

But still: Your rank determins which aircrafts you are allowed to fly.

We are behind regarding replies to enlisters with this airline, I know, but very soon messages will be sent.

Reorganising:

Home page:
The first steps have been taken on a total remake of theese pages - updating from standard, manually edited HTM pages, which really does take a long time to do, to new script formats.
Also new home page will mainly relate to FS2002 & FS2004 issues, but the present Duckling Air home page will be kept intact, available via link from new site.
We will let you know when ready.

Management:
We also expect some radical changes ' upstairs ', but more on this at a later time.

In the meantime: Go on - get up there and log some hours ;o)

Important news - Beta updates and more:

Our devoted CrewMaster, Lars Larsen, has his own page for additional information and stuff !!

He is presently working on more aeroplanes ( choppers too ) for FS2002 & 2004. See the progress, pictures and some Beta versions for download here.
Latest updates today, 31.12.2004, presenting a Beta version of Boeing 747SP.

Our trusted Saab340 - now for FS2002 & 2004 avail. too

We try to find the best available flight dynamics for any new aircraft, but I cannot promise State of the Art, like in the old days ( 1997 - 2001 ), when I used round 70 Hrs on each aircraft, just to make it fly as close to it's real life counterpart as possible.
Comments and such can be posted at our Forum: The Coffee Shop ( see link above - top of page ).

Scenery enhanchement ~ Must have:

Brian C. Selb has created a complete set of new clouds in DXT-3 format to replace the default ones.
Result is a faster loading flightsim, increase on framerate, and much more realistic look
;o)
Works in FS2002 & FS2004.
Do read the instructions as to where to place and what to backup !

Crew Issues:

Our good old Flight Academy was only available in FS98, due to the size of video files recorded, so we are now working on which steps, number of actual and recorded flight hours, are reasonable to let our pilots advance.
And the programming work on automatic updates to Roster pages ( only for members ) is progressing.

As for the many enlisters, please do accept my apologies ! Real life has been demanding here, and I must find time to create a new 'Welcome message' changing all the stuff re. checkruns, Flight Academy, specific rules for this and that . . give me a little more time - I will for sure get back to you shortly.

Known Issues:
Some of the servers holding files for mostly FS98 are closed, so you will for sure come across some broken links in some places ! When real life in future may provide spare time, I will start a clean up.

Flyvestation Vaerloese ~ Vaerloese Airforce base:
Was closed as an active air base during 2003, and in Spring 2004, the remaining services ( ATC, Weather reporting, Rescue Squad and more ) were finally removed, so from now on, to get local weather, choose Roskilde or Copenhagen airports from our Weather pages ( see Download section ).

Hellouuu ;o)

This is a somewhat 'discount update' to theese pages . . . sorry, but real life is very demanding for me at present.

We have three sets of new files this time. two of which are special
Duckling Air ones:

1)
Major updates to FS2002 Duckling Air ATC, AI aircrafts & traffic by Poul Jensen.

2)
Update No2 to Mogens Mortensen's Vaerloese scenery for FS2004
(= Vaerloese for FS2002, upgraded by patch 1 to use in FS2004 must be installed first !

      see below posting 25.8.2003 ).

Apron03_sm.jpg (6931 bytes)

3)
Finally you can find a 'Virtual Pilot' program for FS2002 & 2004, you can command
by voice control !! AND: It's Freeware ;o)

Shoot is a free speech recognition program.
With that marvel and a microphone-powered headphones, you can say what you used to type.

To install Shoot, all necessary products are free.
Here we go:

  • Shoot (ver 1.6.3 - 213 kb)
  • SpeechSDK5.1 (35 MB) ( link to MS for DL )
  • Net framework (23 MB) ( link to MS for DL )

The Shoot program and needed configuration files and HowTos are found in
the below said folder:  UP2004a subfolder : Shoot_VirCoPilot.

And it works for all kind of programs with keyboard input, and not only games.
Use it for say 2k3, IL2: FB, and for LockOn and Raven Shield.
    Enjoy!

Headset03.png (5987 bytes)

Download the above mentioned file sets 1 - 3 here:
All theese goodies are now found in a special main folder named: UP2004a
Go to subfolders - names are self explaining, so to say, and do read the 'readme' and 'latest news' text files on what and howto !

Rightclick on files and choose: Save distination, choose where to store on your HDD.
Text files can be viewed online.

New members:
Will be enlisted soon - hang on.

Anniversary:
On May, 5th 2004,
Duckling Air has been Airborne for 6 whole years :o)
Apart from that - not much to tell - situation seem quite stabile - much like I stated in my 'president's speech' a year ago, and two years ago too, for that matter - so why don't you go read that one <g> ( click on the 'speaker' below ).
That HTM page is still not properly formatted, but on top of page there's a link for download of a WORD 6 version - get that one and read it off line :o)

Duckling Air HQ in FS2004 ~ Here's the needed patch !
Mogens Mortensen's great scenery for FS2002 is usable in FS2004 too. Some problems re. layers and altitude, but can be solved if you DL a small zip file, Mogens has prepared for us - and do read the instructions thoroughly !

Duckling Air HQ - EKVL ver03 update patch for FS2004 Download ( 14kb ) / Text file

In general the scenery works well in FS2004, but do not install Duckling Air AI Traffic. Due to MS once again having changed the source code, it simply does not work  :o(

Duckling Air ATC by Poul E. Jensen is reported to work: Copy the DA file you created for FS2002:
' usenglishbig.gvp' from FS2002\Sound folder to the same folder in FS2004 ( remember to backup first ! ).

More scenery, even . . .

EKCH Copenhagen Airport by L&P
Lennart Arvidson, Per Nilsson & Peter Augustesen ( L&P) have just released their new EKCH Copenhagen Airport for FS2002 & 2004.
Fantastic scenery with lots of details and even animated and working 'Follow-me' cars.

Kastrup2b_sm.jpg (16213 bytes)

Download from either Flightsim Norway or FS Nordic. ( Direct links to scenery collections ).
Note: You need at leat the first 4 zip files
- EKCH_Kastrup
- EKCH_Amager
- EKCH_Saltholm
- EKCH_Dyn
- EKCH1 ( an AFCAD file )

L&P's homepage: Textureart - can be visited here.
Subpage covering various airports can be seen here. ( Lots of nice and detailled airports )

Note that most of L&P's airports can not be downloaded form the L&P homepage
- go to Flightsim Norway or FS Nordic
links above !

Copenhagen City ( textures & buildings )
A group of danish Flightsim enthusiasts have for some time released scenery addon covering Copenhagen and environment. Latest version is 2.3, but that is not compatible with our lovely EKVL scenery for FS2002 by Mogens Mortensen !
You can instead use the version 2.2 which works great in connection with our Duckling Air  HQ
:o)

Download from either Flightsim Norway ( version 2.3 only ) or FS Nordic. ( where you'll also find version 2.2 ). Both are direct links to scenery collections.

At FS Nordic you can also get a large number of addon files from the file library, for example sceneries here. The setup on the pages is very comprehensive :o)

Tutorials
Now we are at it, links to Sami Puro's nice site FS Nordic
, I urge you to take a look at his tutorial pages ! Contains tutorials from FS98 and up, including just added FS2004.
Go here to get the main page in different languages, and here, for totorials in english.

Other files - utilities
Unfortunately Pete Dowson has decided to make his new line of
FSUIPC module for FlightSim 2004 ( and earlier ) 'Payware' :o(

FSUIPC is a general DLL file needed by many third party add-ons. Former versions of FSUIPC.DLL ( Freeware ) allow for example GPS addons, SquawkBox and RealWeather to run in FS2000 and FS2002 ( DLL also works   in FS98). Can be used to ajust a.o. joystick and weather performances.
The Freeware version does not work in FS2004 !

PC_Joy02.bmp (3894 bytes)

Download latest versions of FSUIPC ( Freeware is v2.975 / Payware is v3.05 ) from either:
Flightsim Norway or FS Nordic ( direct links to utilities collections ).

While you're at FS Nordic, have a browse down that utilities page - lots of goodies ! What about a real life Garmin GPS program for your FlightSim ? Or a radar screen ?

FS2002 - FS2004 problems ! ( Possible solutions )
Many flight simmers, having FS2002 & FS2004 installed on PC running Win XP or Win2000, may have experienced serious problems in FS2002.

FS2004 installs a ver 9 of DirectX from MS. Not all graphics cards can handle this, and solution may in WinXP be to set FS2002 to run as a Win98 application ( right click on icon, choose 'compatibility' ).

But that is not all, because it seems like MS has published a trashy update Hotfix for Win XP and Win2000 !
What to do and such - see this E-mail from one of MS' partners, Discreet Software.

Duckling Air AI Traffic available - Routes updated
Our trusty 'duckling', Poul E. Jensen, first gave us the ATC Duckling Air radiocalls, then he also updated the Flight Routes and now: Duckling Air AI traffic ! ~ ( assisted by our CrewMaster, Lars Larsen :o)
See our aeroplanes take off and land at EKVL / Vaerloese Intl. Airport and lots of other destinations too.
Developed in close collaboration with Mogens Mortensen, who created our EKVL
Duckling Air HQ scenery for FS2002, see more and download from posting 12.6.2003 below.
So status is now:
- We have an all new airport,
- we have ATC call us by proper ident,
- we have aeroplanes comming and going, and taxiing round,
- we have an updated net of routes.

What more could You possibly want <g> ( apart from some more aircrafts ) ?
Go flying
!
And report your flights. We hope to get Rosters working again after the holidays.

Apart from seeing Duckling Air aeroplanes at HQ and round the World, installing Duckling Air AI Traffic also has it's special advantages: Improvement on frame rate !

Duckling Air is still active !
Helpers, creators, artists, assistants, staff and myself have been busy with real life issues, but communication and exchange of ideas has been massive from time to time.

In the meantime our counter has passed 90.000 and on May, 5th 2003, Duckling Air has been Airborne for 5 whole years :o)
Apart from that - not much to tell - situation seem quite stabile - much like I stated in my 'president's speech' a year ago, and two years ago too, for that matter - so why don't you go read that one <g> ( click on the 'speaker' below ).

FS2002 files, addons & hints
I know that many would like to have special pages containing downloads for FS2002, and the upcomming FS2004 / Century of Flight, but it is truely a very, very demanding task that I unfortunately do not have time for at present - sorry.
But - all downloads, hints, tips & trix for FS2002 are right here - on this page: Latest News

Only a question of browsing down the page . . . or use 'search' function.

Rejoyce ~ All new Duckling Air  HQ / EKVL for FS2002
Months of building, revamping, constructing, testing and . . and . . finally resulted in an all new scenery covering Vaerloese, EKVL ~ created by Mogens Mortensen.
Very detailled, several custom made items, lots of athmosphere - in fact rather fantastic
:o)

Using the special Duckling Air  ATC set ( see below - posting 20.12.2002 ) you will be guided correctly round the taxiways, be called by your proper Duckling Air   call sign and much more, because this scenery is created in close collaboration with another devoted 'Duckling' : Poul E. Jensen.

Scenery is also prepared for Duckling Air   AI traffic and time tables, a special set also created by Poul E. Jensen, assisted by our CrewMaster, Lars Larsen.
This AI addon will be available within round a fourtnight for download
!

Maiden flight 14.2.2003

Presently only in the PAX version 103 = no cargo door on port side, but a true Duckling it is !
Jens E. Schreiber is now working on a Cargo version expected in a near future.
I couldn't resist the challenge - so I changed some in the Flight Dynamics ( sanctioned by the creator, Milton Shupe ) - not that I could not change and tweak more, but I find the present result ok, at least for now, see the included text file for more info.
The ZIP package only contains the Duckling Air overlay and changes - you'll have to download the original aeroplane ( approx. 14MB ) from one of the links mentioned in the text file !
Please note, that the original package contains panel and sound set aswell.

Microsoft FlightSim 2004 NEWS !!
A bit earlier than antecipated, the next version of Microsoft's Flightsimualtor will be available in the summer 2003 at an estimated retail price of $54.95 ( in USA ).
Title is: A Century of Flight, due to the fact that
the year 2003 marks the centennial of the Wright brothers' first powered flights at Kitty Hawk.

FS9-KH110203.jpg (4572 bytes)

The first page on what to expect can be seen at MSN FS Insider here and lots of screen shots here .

I am happy to announce that we seem to get back a CD-3 and also the aircraft I a while back tried to revive for FS, the Ryan NYP “Spirit of St. Louis”, Charles Lindbergh flew from New York to Paris, non stop ~ just to mention a few of the OldTimers promissed.

FS9-DC3110203.jpg (10492 bytes)

MS states that from FS2000 and later, addons will be compatible, providet the MS FS SDKs have been upheld. The above mentioned MS insider page does not reveal whether the earlier announced changes to the present A/C's air files' structures is implemented. Let us at least hope that MS will deliver a flawless A/C tool this time (= FSEdit ) !

Duckling Air STN report :

Aircrafts
We are closing in on the release of a very, very nice and, believe me, realistic Dash7-103, named: Duckling15. As said, the artwork is created by Jens E. Schreiber, with Lars Larsen and myself 'nitpicking' !
Just the other day it got it's airworthy certificate, Joe and Jim in the hangers are finishing up the last things after the repaint and cleaning the interior.
What is still remaining is writing the necessary text files, which, believe me takes time, pack it all up and upload.

Furthermore the creator, Milton Shupe of Flightsim Online ( see our links page ), has granted me the right to the source codes, changing anything I like ( or dislike <g> ) - what a nice chap !! Give him a big hand everyone.
But that said - I really do not feel that eager to do changes to his grand creation, at least not at present, because only very tiny things could benefit from it, and only if you dig really deep down in the air files, you'll find a few nots and bolts to adjust. One thing we in general would like in Milton Shupe's next version is a true version 103, with cargo door.

DHC7DA1501_sm.jpg (15026 bytes)

In a recent letter, Milton, who is a  sim friend of mine for several years now, stated, that he was inspired to build this aeroplane by my and Dennis Wasnic's FS98 version: Nipiki, and was hoping that we would add his FS2002 version to our fleet here at Duckling Air :o)

Jens E. Schreiber is presently also working on a Goose, yes . . you heard me, not a Duckling, but it will be <g>. It's a float plane, and will probably come in two versions ( like the Beaver ): Duckling Air today livery, and an OldTimer version. Here's a picture of an early Alpha version:

G21da01_02_sm.jpg (16321 bytes)

One thing is the repaint job, but I must say, the Flight Dynamics are very, and I mean: Very ! , bad, so once more I am in for many hours of work.

The Baron58 is also still being repainted by Alan P. Pierce, can't be long now before he too is in need of writing the necessary text files I recon.

Poul E. Jensen and Lars Larsen are still working on the Route System update and AI aeroplanes, meant to be released in connection with Mogens Mortensens upcomming FS2002 EKVL - the Duckling Air HQ.

Scenery
Mogens Mortensen finally got his new Computer - ordered a long time ago - and yesterday picked up where he left off in December, creating a magnificent Duckling Air HQ at EKVL, Vaerloese, judging from what we have seen so far !

Crew issues
Lars Larsen, our CrewManager, is still working on a smart way to update Rosters automatically, programming and such.

Well . .. that more or less wraps it up for this time - just wanted to fill you in on what's happening, and to let you know,  that even if a month or so passes, we are still alive and 'kicking' here at Duckling Air HQ :o)

Duckling 14 ~ B737-400 updated !
Yep - our trusty Duckling14 has once more been pulled through the 'assyline' (= assembly line ) at the Workshop and Skunkworks of Jens E. Schreiber, resulting in an enhanced version on textures: Belly and various parts are now reflecting !
I've made a new aircraft.cfg, included in the package, for this aeroplane so you in FS2002 can choose between the original
Duckling Air livery and this enhanced one.

Have your FS2002 ATC call " Duckling Air " on the radio :o)
Finally, we have it: ATC calling us by our correct name !
The package contains thorough and comprehensive instructions and links to where you can Download the needed program named 'EditVoicePack' and a special Microsoft file.
For your convenience I have put up the two relevant links below here aswell.

One drawback is the fact that those of you ( if running Win98 or Win ME ) who want to 'make it happen', must download a large file from Microsoft at a size of more than 22MB !
Due to the said size of this 'thing' - we of course did not include it in the zip package you can download below.
If you are connected to the Internet on a not very fast line ( modem or ISDN ), you may consider having one of your friends ( having flatrate and a highspeed connection ) download the file in question for you - just an idea
:o)

Easter eggs in FS2002 ( PRO ):
In Denmark we have a saying, that Christmas lasts till Easter, so I of course came to think about Easter eggs <g>.
I have collected the most popular ones for you - have a closer look at this subpage :o)

In the works . . .
We now almost only look for aeroplanes build in the special G-Max program, because they are normally more frame rate friendly than aeroplanes made using say FSDS. Also they have a number of special features, a.o. the most realistic landing lights, illuminating the ground.
Presently we are working on a DHC-7, Baron58, and, on the side, AVRO RJ85.

Mogens Mortensen continues his work on our brand new FS2002 EKVL Duckling Air HQ scenery, which is getting closer it's completion as we speak. Will be available 'sooner than later'.

Above you can download the Duckling Air ATC radio call - next step, being worked on by Poul E. Jensen and Lars Larsen, is AI aeroplanes and routes reflecting the fact, that we are found in other places than just EKVL, Vaerloese :o)

Latest News, you say . .
Well . . long time since last, I know, but the crew behind this VA has in fact been working hard, on and on. Problem is, that 'things take time', and we all have our day to day lives to see to too . . . so things take a bit longer than we like, unfortunately.

Mogens Mortensen is working on, steadily and with passion, on our next Duckling Air  HQ scenery at EKVL.
Christmas Present . . . You ask ?  . . Well ..  Let's see - we'll do our best.
Have a look at the Northern area with Domestic and International 'department' :

EKVL_BTA03B10_01b_sm01.jpg (29902 bytes)

The 'automated Traffic' ( AI planes ) and ATC features are also being worked on by Lars Larsen - see how crowded it gets when Lars really 'is getting it on' :

Crowded_ekvl_2_sm.jpg (9435 bytes)

One of our new members, Poul E. Jensen, has created the first version of ATC calling 'Duckling Air' on the radio, and it works just fine.
Problem is that the compiled file fills more than 192MB and that is impossible to upload anywhere for anybody to download.
We are looking at the possibilities to make a 'HowTo' package with a Duckling Air module file set, so to speak, but that still requires that our members download and install the MS Netframework file ( > 20MB ) and handling program named EditVoicePack ( small ), understand how it all works and manage the relatively simple programming of it all.

We also plan creating a combined Nordic &   Duckling Air set of Flight routes within FS2002, with ATC calls and all the bells and whistles.

Various Aircrafts ( mentioned further down this page, but not yet released )  are still being worked on, but some of our devoted members have had to participate in real life so some of the projects have had to be put on the 'afterburner'. Other aircrafts are still on the assembly line - but again, things take time :o(

New FS2002 aircraft arrived
After a month of test flying and such we finally managed to obtain the airworthy certificate for our new B767-400.
It is an ER version which stands for: Extended Range. Original created by the POSKY team in G-MAX which has enabled real landing lights, flexing wings, special animations and much more. Let me tell you, you're in for a treat
:o)

Maiden flight 14.8.2002

It comes in two Duckling Air   versions: PAX & Cargo, and the download file includes both - hence the size of the zip file, which also contains startup files and much more.
The PAX version is named: Duckling 5, and replaces our trusty old B757-200 from FS98. The Cargo versions do not have names - yet.
Do read the installing instructions thoroughly !!

Good News ~ Weather wise
Seems like the National Weather Service, we link to on a.o. our Weather page ( see Download sub page ), has decided to update weather information on EKVL more often than the few times per 24 hours they did earlier.
Looks like they now update every hour, which really is good news
:o)

Crew Issues
Welcome to our new enlisters ~ will write you one of these days. CrewMaster has received lots of reported flights ( from a few members ) and will add our new pilots to the Roster pages and update flight hours, in a not too distant future.

The Story ~ It's all about ducks, I think ?

I.gif (421 bytes)T was lovely summer weather in the country, and the golden corn, the green oats, and the haystacks
piled up in the meadows looked beautiful.
The stork walking about on his long red legs chattered in the Egyptian language, which he had learnt from his mother. The corn-fields and meadows were surrounded by large forests, in the midst of which were deep pools. It was, indeed, delightful to walk about in the country. In a sunny spot stood a pleasant old farm-house close by a deep river, and from the house down to the water side grew great burdock leaves, so high, that under the tallest of them a little child could stand upright.
The spot was as wild as the centre of a thick wood. In this snug retreat sat a duck on her nest, watching for her young brood to hatch; she was beginning to get tired of her task, for the little ones were a long time coming out of their shells, and she seldom had any visitors.

Do you recognize this text ?? It's all about ducks  :o)

Vaerloese Intl. Airport FS2002 ~ Duckling Air  HQ updated
Mogens Mortensen has by now also finished the next part of our HQ at Vaerloese Airport FS2002, the scenery part North of main Rwy 10/28.
A bit sparse compared to the FS2000 version he made, but Mogens wants to dedicate his spare time to do a next and final version for FS2002, because the way this first official version was built does not comply with some of the scenery readers and Navigation programms, some of us are happy to use.
So . . . Mogens has to rework major parts from scratch, unfortunately.

Next update expected round 1.9.2002, and newest enlisters will be added too.

Navigation learn & test programm
Tim Carson has, a while back, created a very nice site, containing a java based navigation 'play ground', where you can try out your skills and test your abilities on VOR, NDB and more.
Go to Tim Carlson's nav site to try it out, and do remember to read all the documentation towards the buttom ! Thanx to to our devoted member Henrik Michelsen for the link.

For those of you that do not want to 'linger' online, you can download the complete programm and use it off line. Download here.
Unzip it to an empty directory, and double click on index.html (or whatever you need to do to open a local html file in your browser).
Present version is 1.0.2 as of October 14, 1998, Copyrighted by Timothy B. Carlson.

Other issues
We expect to be able to present a B767 in near future. Lots of details and features. Will in FS2002 replace our B757 from FS98.
Also Lars Larsen is having a closer look at the AI possibilities and ATC changes, to fit Duckling Air better, and Mogens Mortensen is back after the summer vacation, continuing his work on Vaerloese Intl. Airport.

Yes - Mogens Mortensen has been working his b.. off to get it ready before the Summer Holidays.
We are talking about a BETA version, because the scenery is not yet finished, but we did promise you earlier ( 15.5.2002 ) to make working BETAs available for our pilots and guests

Presently it contains the runways, ILS and NAV, changed ATC, new textures, Hangar area to the South, Duckling Air Flight School, Tower and more. In fact - lots of details !
Next step will be upgrading with the Terminal area to the North, more buildings and enhancements, but you will have to wait till after the Summer Holidays.

More DC-6 issues ~ and patch for 3rd party addon
In continuation of my posting just below, 16.6.2002, I can offer two small file sets that will solve some problems for those that will use Mike Hambly's DC-6 sound set ( DC6SND.zip ) and also in same relation feel that the wheel brake sound is too loud,   and those that get an error message in FS2002 re. the sim not able to load 3rd party addons ( not only when using the DC-6B with recommended addons ! ).

DC6SND sound set update for FS2002
The original 'sound.cfg' for FS98 in this sound set has now been corrected and with this new *.cfg it seems to run fine on any PC and operating system.
Thanks to Mike Hambly for letting me update his sound set
:o)
The zipped package also contains a new 'brakes_sound.wav' file with a lower volume.
Read and follow the included install instructions very carefully !

Download the update here  / read textfile

Patch for 3rd party addon ~ to remove FS2002 error message
If you get an error message that "FS2002 was unable to load some 3rd party software" you are most likely using a compatible 3rd party addon, like a gauge with sound, but FS2002 does not 'understand' that
<g> .

DHC-2 Beaver ~ New FS2002 aircraft arrived
This aircraft is one of my favourites :o)
Here's a little background:
The de Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver is one of the most successful and long-lived designs in aviation history. The first production Beaver (CF-OBS) was delivered to the Ontario Provincial Air Service on April 26, 1948 and is now in retirement at the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre in Sault Ste. Marie Ontario. When production ended in 1967, 1631 of these rugged STOL utility aircraft had been built. An all metal high wing monoplane, the Beaver was designed from the ground up to be the ultimate bush plane. Features like removable cargo doors on both sides large enough to admit a 45 gal. drum, doors for pilot and co-pilot, fuel tank fillers mounted low on the fuselage, engine oil filler inside the cockpit, engine oil dilution system for cold weather operation, simple rubber shock absorbers to withstand rough landings, and light counterbalanced controls for fatigue free operation. The fat high lift wing with it's slotted flap system and "drooped "ailerons provide outstanding STOL capabilities and low speed handling which enable it to carry more than half a ton of payload in and out of tight spots on land, water and snow where few other aircraft dare to venture. More than half of the Beavers produced were purchased by the US military because nothing else could match it's performance, the first foreign aircraft ever ordered by the US in peacetime. The DHC-2 has become an icon in the history of northern Canadian bush flying and has been named as one of the ten most outstanding Canadian engineering achievements of the past century. An aircraft which, in over 50 years of service, has yet to be replaced.

Two of the three versions available in standard Duckling Air livery

This beautiful aircraft was built by Fred Banting, who gave us permission to use it with this VA :o)
Repainted by our trusty member Jens E. Schreiber and all new Flight Dynamics by yours truly.
The official Duckling Air paint scheme ( Red / White ) comes in versions: Wheel, Wheel & Ski, Floats.

But - that is not all . . . !
Jens Schreiber has also created a kind of 'parallel' set of livery: Real Old Time Alu, Noseart and more, and named it ( all three ): Daddy's Little Beaver
<g>

DABWR_Alu04b_sm.jpg (23132 bytes)
Screen dump of one of the BETAs

The Float version has it's own REG#, reflecting that it is in fact a float plane: OY-DWA.
The Wheel and Ski versions have ident. REG#: OY-DOE, where the ' O ' reflects that they belong in the Old Timer fleet.

You MUST first ! download Fred Bantings original FS2000 and FS2002 update files and install exactly as Fred states !
The two needed zip-files can be found on some of the major sites - search for these file names:
FS2000 version: beaver7.zip ( 7.2MB )
FS2002 update: bvr7_upg.zip ( 595KB )

The original package contains the three versions, panel and sounds plus some documentation.

Duckling Air Beaver package contains all three versions:  Download ( 780KB ) / Text file

Duckling Air 'Daddy's Little Beaver' package contains all three versions:  Download ( 1.6MB ) / Text file

You will have to choose: Have the 'standard' red / white livery or the ALU look. The file sets are setup to overwrite the installation of Fred Bantings A/C !
You can - if you are skilled - have the original three A/Cs alongside the Duckling Standard and the ALU versions ( 3x3=9 in all ), but you must find out yourselves, do *not* write us on how - ok ?

More Beaver stuff : In additions to the two Beaver packages I have compiled an 'accessories package'.
It contains an update to the original panel, giving you a complete Bendix Radio Stack, Minicontrols and Compass and Situation files sets ( 2 ), Various flightplan versions for a bush flight in Canada from Elko to Kaslo ( text, FSNAV 3.0, FSNAV 4.x, FS2002 flightplanner formats) and FSNAV ver 3.0 & 4.x update for the A/C profile.
A must for the dedicated Beaver freak
<g>.

The DAPiRep page is of course updated.

If you experience problems with the *.MDL file, search for a small programm named 'mdlrepair201.zip' on the major sites, like AVSim.com ( link to AVSim's FS2002 Utils department - search there :o) !
This program will check and fix any visual model (.MDL) files when running FS2002 on Windows NT/2000/XP. This is usually associated with the message "Unable to load visual model". (MR)

The panel overlay I created earlier for  Duckling Air   can still be used with the at present recommended DC6IFR ver4 panel by Tom Gibson ( usable in FS2002 ) ~ available here ( 250kb ) and from our panel page in the DL section.
Package also contains a needed sound file.
Hint: If panel does not show when in cockpit mode, pres ' w ' a few times and it will show up.

! IMPORTANT ISSUE !
Expect broken links ! :o(
Yes ~ unfortunately rumour has it that the server on Greenland, that stores many of our files, is about to be closed. I have round 135MB of files 'up there', so I'm a bit worried, you understand.
Since round March 22, 2002, I have not been able to get in touch via FTP, and access via browser has been somewhat 'on and off'. Many are the reports on broken links.

Nobody have informed me, and no replies to my asking what & why, but you must expect broken links soon when a DL link points in direction of: http://www.greenweb.gl/  ~ sorry, none of my doing :o(

I have no other place for these files, at the moment, but I am presently working hard on trying to get web space for files on other servers, but they all want me to pay, and I am presently paying to have this site up running and for the registration of the Duckling Air name and . . and . . aswell, so I really do not want to empty my personal pockets more than they already are.

WHAT IS NEEDED
What I need is about 200MB ( or more ) of free and unconditioned space ( no advertissement clauses, no pop ups, no banners ) and reliable and stabile for some years ahead.

Who can help out ? I can be contacted at this address ( E-mail link )

We expect to bring one more posting here before the Summer Holidays, hoping to have the Status pages updated, and present one more aeroplane, at least :o)

Cessna C182 Skylane ~ OY-DAA is here
After a thorough revamp and rework our Duckling Air  basic trainer and taxi aircraft is now ready for download. We have chosen the C182S ( S = Skylane ) version, because it has better and more correct looks, plus a virtual cockpit and more, in contrary to the C182RG version we used in FS98.

Jens Schreiber and I are presently working on AVRO RJ85 and Beaver aircrafts, I am also occupied with DC-6B for our Old Timer division, Lars Larsen with various default planes for AI in

Last Air Show at Flyvestation Vaerloese in preparation
Every four years Flyvestation Vaerloese ( Vaerloese Airforce Base ) host a magnificent Air Show, last time was June 14, 1998. Round 100.000 visited that day.

For more information, click on pic or go to this page.

Next, and last show is scheduled to take place June 9, 2002. Reason for it being the last show is, that most of the Royal Danish Airforce's present activities at Vaerloese are moved to other bases January 1, 2004.

To learn more about the real life FSNVAER / EKVL, visit the Airforce Base's homepage .

OY-DAA for FS2002 reached BETA state
In FS98 we used the Cessna 182RG aircraft as our basic trainer. In FS2002 we replace it with Cessna C182S, mostly due to the FS2002 RG version not updated in all respects whereas the S version is.
Presently Lars Larsen is working on the last touch up on the paintwork and I am working on the air files.

Read on down this page ( 'Latest News' ) to see what's cooking and soon to come, which problems we've encountered, old, but still good news and so on. A very good way to see and feel the essentials of this VA I think.

I am still acting as webmaster, but very busy with real life too sets back the updates on these pages a bit.
Flight Academy issues aswell - due to my two 'core' associates, CrewMaster Lars Larsen and Chief Pilot Rolf Petersen, still being heavily occupied with - yes ... you guessed it: Real life.
That said I must add that Lars has been very active lately - assisting and doing paintjobs amd more.

On the other hand - what was stated in last years speech still goes: It's not the postings on 'Latest News', nor new aeroplanes, panels or utils that shows the life of this virtual airline ! It's the members' activity that counts !

BUT ~ A birthday calls for presents ~ right ?

New and additional Logo
Have a look at the tail of OY-DWB - yes - no DA marking, but instead this bitmap:

da-logo2b.jpg (11400 bytes)

We hereby introduce a new, additional logo for Duckling Air : A duck lifting - T/O.
We will use this logo for some of the default aeroplanes that do not have seperate bitmaps for SB and Port side of the tail, and in general as a symbol for our float and amphibian aircrafts.

What else
Mogens Mortensen is still working on our Vaerloese Intl. Airport for FS2002 and has promissed to try to implement a float plane landing, situated on the banks of Soendersoe, neighbour to EKVL.
Mogens has broken his first and tested BETA version 'test studio' into small pieces and just the other day sent the testers an all new and very 'bare' ALPHA version.
ATC calls and communication for Duckling Air will be included in the new airport BTW
:o)

We have agreed that when major steps in the developing process are reached ( first new BETA, BETA2 aso. ) we will give our users access to download and try out.
Because the creating process will take a long time - and we do not want our pilots to be without a real Duckling Air Home base for too long.

Status pages updated :o)
I am happy to announce that our Status pages in Members Section are now back on track, and updated as of last night. As always - a few fly a lot, most of our members are passive.

Access to file server seem repaired
Broken links and in general the connection to our file server in Greenland, mentioned in my last posting, now seem to be repaired.
Unfortunately only the web access - I still cannot get in touch via FTP. Hope that issue will be corrected too very soon.

Various news
New programms emerge, a.o. for changing the ATC, and that means that the Vaerloese Intl. Airport, Mogens Mortensen is working on, can be adjusted so that our lengthened Rwy can also catch the ATC contact.

No new aircrafts yet, but we are primarily working on the Baron58, AVRO RJ85 and Cessna 208 Float plane.

One of our close associates has started working on a kind of 'Black Box', which programm is intended for our Flight Academy, when we evaluate CheckRuns.

Speaking of Panels . . . Next
Microsoft SDK is out . Main page for Microsoft SDKs is this link, then go on from there.

Broken links on file server
A good deal of our files are now placed with a main server in Greenland, has in fact been so for quite a while, but you may have experienced broken links the past few weeks, since round March 22, 2002.
I contacted the WebMaster in charge, and hope that the problems will be fixed soon.
Sorry the trouble.

Crew issues
Welcome to all the new pilots. Today we enlisted No. 415, and especially 'hello' to
Jens Erik Schreiber, who offered his help repainting and updating our fleet - he is at it as we speak :o) Status Pages will updated very soon.
Ok . . . I know - not all 415 active, but on the other hand it shows the interest for this VA among our fellow simmers
:o)

IMPORTANT NOTE:
CatMan rev6c is presently not up to date - because FS2002 is not implemented therein, and flying FS2002 we cannot find a usable system for evaluating checkruns from Career Pilots !
:o(

Fact is that FS2002 does not create relatively small files when making a video - on the contrary - it creates very huge multi-media files, completely useless when it comes to sending E-mails and storing.
Please see more on this subject further down this page ( more postings the past few months ) .

So - at present - only checkruns performed in FS98 can be evaluated, sorry.
Those of you that 'only' fly FS2002 must at this stage unfortunately accept to participate as FOT pilots.
That said - all the rest of CatMan, re. logbooks and reporting and convensions and such, are still upheld.

Other News ~ recalling ( posting 5.5.2001, edited 9.5.2001 )
As many of you already might be aware of,
Duckling Air is registred with the danish counter: Chart.dk .
Chart.dk has a special service - a set of pages with statistics available also for our guests, not only for webmasters - very interesting.
To access, go to this login page and use: 'duckda' ( no hyphens though ) for both username and login password.
Statistics are presented graphically and in writing ( only danish ).

Swedflight goes commercial !
Bad, bad business ! :o(
Yes - Swedflight Group goes commercial. For more information see this link.

Please allow me to refer to my posting below on this page 10.2.2002 re. Freeware and commercial addons.
Also - see Alexander Lawrence's discussion on 'Freeware' here.

Mouse Wheel ~ FS2002 Tip of the day
Here's a handy new feature in Flight Simulator 2002:
If you have a mouse with a wheel, you can roll the wheel forward and back to change frequencies on the radios, set the heading bug and autopilot settings, change the "squawk" code in the transponder, and operate other aircraft and avionics
controls (trim, flaps, landing gear, light switches, and so forth).

To use the wheel, point to the item you want to change. When the pointer changes to a "+" or "-" roll the wheel.
You'll often find using the wheel is faster and easier than clicking the
left mouse button.

HowTo at Flightsim.com updated
Very good and comprehensive articles on how to a.o. add aircrafts and panels in FS2002 - a must for everyone using this simulator. For those sim fans that would like to know more about approaches, landing, navigation aso. you'll find such HowTo's aswell at Flightsim.com.
Find Flightsim.com's HowTo main page here.

HowTo add AI aircrafts ~ for beginners ~ and Duckling Air  A/Cs to come
Hans Fog has written a very understandable essay on this subject ( in danish ! ). Read it here.
(Link now repaired :o)
I am preparing versions in danish as well as in english for download in at least RTF format from these pages, with the kind coorporation from the author.

Ok then !! - Who offers to create AI Aircrafts for Duckling Air ??

Only aircrafts created in G-Max are fully compatible BTW !
Our first B737-400  will be ready soon. Has reached it's last BETA stage. Baron58, B777 and an AVRO RJ85 are also on the assyline at present ( all usable for AI ).

Microsoft FS2002 Software Developer Kits ( aka SDK )
Speaking of AI Traffic . . . Next
Microsoft SDK is out : The Traffic Database builder utility - get it here .
Main page for Microsoft SDKs is this link.

Genuine FS2002 Vaerloese Intl. Airport reached BETA stage
Mogens Mortensen just yesterday presented his first BETA version of an all new scenery for
Duckling Air to Duckling Air Management.
It has ILS for both Rwy10 and 28 with true 'Duckling Air Freq', missing VOR & NDB added too.
ATIS is stil a problem, same goes for COM FREQ. Hope to get these ( and other issues ) solved before final release.

Flight Reporting page updated
I know - no recent updates to the Pilots Rosters - sorry - but CrewMaster has been occupied with real life. Hope to get it back on track real soon.
In the meantime our reporting page has been updated with the soon to come B737-400 OY-DAO, Duckling14.

FSNVAER ~ EKVL real life for FS2002
Jan Rasmussen made his first version of Vaerloese Airforce Base for FS2002 available to the public a few days ago.

For download - go to Jan's special FS2002 EKVL page .
Please notice that the documentation does not explain how to add the scenery !

Updating to FS2002
Strange - really very strange !!  - - -  Not one word from anybody regarding my posting 21.2.2002 offering possibility to repaint aircrafts and panel creating !! ?? :o(
All you 'lazybodies' out there - get going and start helping out !

Lars Larsen and myself are still occupied with a.o. the B737-400 for Duckling Air - hope to be able to present it soon, so stay tuned.

Broken links fixed
A good deal of our files are now placed with a main server in Greenland, has in fact been so for quite a while, but you may have experienced broken links since the past weekend.
I contacted the WebMaster in charge, and am happy to report that the problems should now be fixed :o)

New arrivals expected soon
We, which means Lars Larsen and myself, are working hard 'behind the curtain' to produce up to date aircrafts for FS2002.
The first 'arriver' is expected to be a B737-400, though based on the default FS2002 one, repainted and Flight Dynamic wise rather tweaked.

OY-DAO03_sm.jpg (22731 bytes)
A heavy landing at Heathrow

Some of you may know that I have been wishing for a good B737 for a good while, so now my wishes seem to come true :o)

Next planned, not in priority, are B777-200, B747-400, Beech Baron58, Avro RJ85, DC10, DC6B.
In general see the list I mentioned in my huge posting 10.2.2002.

FS2002 issues
Using the Joystick / reverse thrust fix I described in last posting here also seem to solve the problem many have with 'push back' (<SHIFT> + P) not working, or not working when viewing the aircraft from the outside !
I really urge all our members and visitors to Download and install the magnificant addon: FSUIPC by Pete Dowson !
BUT - automatic enterings in logbooks seem to, in general, not to function - seems to be a bug. Our Pilots are therefore advised, for the time being, to enter flight logging manually *before* exiting FS2002 !

Jan Rasmussen, who created the close to real life EKVL Airforcebase for FS2000, is at it again, working on an FS2002 version. Have a look at Jan's just established homepage for this project, still only the 'teaser' opening page - but soon we hope for some files. The first BETA version is in test as we speak.
Mind you, not a 'replacement' for the Vaerloese International Airport Mogens Mortensen is working on, which will be a true virtual Duckling Air experience.

Wanted !  ( Who want in ? )
Job offer . . . .

Aircraft repaint:
We really need somebody to repaint the default FS2002 Beech Baron58 into a
Duckling Air livery - like our good old Seneca III we have for FS98 ! Night lighting and all the works.

Panel rework:
I have an Avro RJ85 panel for FS98 - rather advanced and 99 percent finished by our good colleague and associate Henri Werij.
Need a skilled panel creator to take it to FS2002 and finish the project !

On both issues, contact me for files and further information, please.

FS2002 patches

The World Trade Center.
For everyone who misses them, this file puts the WTC twin towers back into the FS2002 default scenery. The building crash detection has been disabled because the author doesn't want anyone to fly simulated attacks on the towers. Helipad included. Created by M. Michael.
Download it via this link: wtc-2002.zip

Missing Stonehenge library file in FS2002
This freeware file is a patch scenery library file to avoid the error message regarding a missing scenery library file in the default FS2002 when flying close to Boscombe Down airfield. The missing model has been identified as the prehistorically significant monument known as Stonehenge. Created by David Howarth.

Microsoft FS2002 'patches' for Lessons
Microsoft forgot some of the files when they created the CDs <g>. Go to the official MS Flight Simulator 2002 homepage to see what you are missing.

Microsoft says [Updated January 11, 2002] :
"Attention, Flight Simulator Commercial Pilot and ATP-wannabes: We have your charts!
If you're one of the many who has explored the Flight Simulator 2002 Lessons, you know we've included  aeronautical charts to help you. Unfortunately, the charts for the Commercial and Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) lessons didn't make it onto the Flight Simulator 2002 CDs. "

Duckling Air HQ Intl Airport for FS2000 ~ Update for FS2002 ( Flatten switch )
Mogens Mortensen finished this fine piece of work a short while ago, many details and really adds to the experience and feel of a nice simulator - like in fact 'beeing there'.
Now we are asked how to install it in FS2002 and if it works there.
Yes it does, work I mean, but not entirely. Something about the night lighting and also be aware that the FS2002 ATC will ref. to the shorter FS2002 default Rwy ( ours at Duckling Air HQ is approx. 2.000ft longer ).

Download the 'How To' in FS2002 by Mogens Mortensen here (zip) or read it online (txt).

Download the original FS2000 Duckling Air HQ scenery, go here.

Click on pic for a few screen shots
( from the BETA version)

Mogens Mortensen will continue his work on the FS2002 version of EKVL, Vaerloese Intl. Airport, but we will be awaiting the scenery & ATC SDKs from Microsoft. Not until having those sources of information will we be able to create a correct and working scenery, unfortunately !
But then we hope for true Duckling Air ATC and such :o)

First Duckling Air FS2002 aircraft has arrived
I am happy to present our first real FS2002 aircraft in Duckling Air livery. It is the L100-30 Hercules, an enhanced version with whispy light effects and more.

OAC09b_sm.jpg (13589 bytes)

Package also contains a set of startup files and a flightplan, extensive documentation and information plus recommendations for soundsets and panel for FS2002.

So new that it is not yet added to the Download section ( just got it's airworthy certificates yesterday ), so for the present, use these links:

Clouds in Fs2002 ~ a correction
Regarding my remark in last posting about the clouds being flat, I to some degree stand corrected.
Tom Gibson ( you know - that nice 'guy' who runs that magnificent site on Classic Airliners - see our Links page ) has pointed out, that this is only the fact if one has text on the screen, like the frame rate counter, <SHIFT>+3xZ, activated, often done when testing - which is mostly what I do when 'simming' :o)

PiRep updated
Our online Flight Reporting page in the closed Members Section is now updated. FS2002 option added.

Reverse Thrust problem in FS2002 ~ FSUIPC solution !
Many users have experienced problems with activating 'reverse thrust' for Turbo Props and Jets. Fact is that FS2002 is very unstabile when it comes to 'thrust levers' and 'thrust wheels' on joysticks and yokes.

PC_Joy02.bmp (3894 bytes)

Here's the solution :
1) Install Pete Dowson's FSUIPC, latest version - DL from Pete's home page or from e.g.
Flightsim.no.
2) Fire up FS2002, from pull down menu, select Modules and 'FSUIPC'
3) Follow the instructions below:

Click on FSUIPC's Joystick tab. Look at throttle assignment window (pg 1 of 6) lower right window. If necessary, click on Reset, otherwise simply click Set.
Two more "Set" buttons will appear, above boxes with axis reporting information. Notice on the left side of this window two boxes with actual information being sent - it will be fluctuating wildly!.
Simply place throttle in minimum positon ( IMPORTANT: 'almost' = just before reaching absolute minimum ), click on 'Set' directly above the box. Set throttle to maximum, and click 'Set' above that box.

Return to FS and notice the new, "fixed" throttle problem! :o)
NOTE: If you in the first place moved throttle to absolute minimum - you do not get a 'Null zone' and your setting may not work properly !

Happy flying :o)
